To pay homage to Virginia Woolf, Montblanc has created an Edition of jet-black writing instruments with a slightly curved body, gilt fittings, a faceted ruby as clip stone and wave-shaped guilloche work covering body and cap.

Virginia Woolf:
novelist, critic and feminist thinker of modernism

There is no doubt that Virginia Woolf was the most pioneering and innovative female novelist of the early 20th century. Her rejection of Victorian conventions and her radical renunciation of literary traditions derived from an intellectually outstanding mind and a strong character, matured through the serious blows of fate she suffered.

Virginia Woolf - both author and critic - is considered to be one of the first representatives of classical modernism. She developed the story-telling technique of the "interior monologue", which she used most consistently in her novel "The Waves", which appeared in 1931. Virginia Woolf shaped this avant-garde technique with an expressly feminine subjectivity and autobiographical elements to create milestones in feminist literature such as "Orlando" or "Mrs. Dalloway" - a work that was newly interpreted in 2003 as the cinema film "The Hours", with Nicole Kidman in the role of Virginia Woolf.

Montblanc Writers Edition "Virginia Woolf"
exclusive writing instruments, carried on the waves of a successful writer

The Writers Edition has been produced since 1992 and honours every year in autumn internationally known writers and their works with a series of precious and strictly limited writing instruments. This year´s Writers Edition "Virginia Woolf" is also oriented impressively to the literary heritage of the writer it is named after.

75 years after the publication of the novel "The Waves", finely engraved guilloche work recalls Virginia Woolf´s most outstanding work and her eventful life. In the form of waves, the guilloche work covers the body of jet-black precious resin, so underlining the lighty curved silhouette. In the same way that every one of the seven novels, 500 essays and prose writings bear the very personal signature of Virginia Woolf, all writing instruments in the Writers Edition "Virginia Woolf" carry her unmistakable signature.

The most eye-catching feature is a faceted ruby on the gilt clip - symbolising the individuality of Virginia Woolf´s avant-garde style and the climax of her literary creation. The 18-carat gold nib reveals the tragic and far too early end of the successful author: the two elm trees, under which Virginia Woolf found her last resting place on her estate in Sussex in 1941, are masterfully engraved for eternity on the handmade nib.

Montblanc Writers Edition "Virginia Woolf": an Edition of exceptional writing instruments for connoisseurs and collectors who are passionately interested in writing and in what is written. Esteemed throughout the world and strictly limited in number. The Edition number engraved on the cap documents the uniqueness of each instrument. The fountain-pen is limited to 16,000 pieces, the ballpoint pen to 18,000 and the mechanical pencil, which is only available in the set combination, to 4,000. Internationally available as from August in all Montblanc boutiques and as from September 2006 from selected trade partners.

|
